History of St. Louis Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals were founded as the St. Louis Brown Stockings (or Browns) in 1882. The team name remained until 1900 (the team was briefly renamed the Perfectos in 1899), when the St. Louis ballplayers officially adopted their permanent name, the St. Louis Cardinals. The team has the second most World Series championship titles in Major League Baseball, with ten series wins, only beat by the New York Yankees’ 27 titles. They have won 17 National League Pennants, advancing ten of those pennants into World Series wins. Most recently, the team won the 2006 World Series against the Detroit Tigers.
