Golf is a precision club-and-ball sport, in which competing golfers, using clubs like putters, drivers, a sand wedge, and irons in an attempt to hit balls into each hole on a golf course. The person with the fewest number of strokes wins the match. Golf is one of the few games that does not require a standardized playing area, and most people are said to “use the whole course” when playing. A par means you hit exactly what the stats said you should for the hole, a bogey means you were 1 stroke over what you should have hit for the hole, and a birdie means you put the ball in the hole in 1 stroke less than par. There are many types of matches such as stroke plan, skins, or team play, all of which have a unique set of rules. An amateur player is said to have a certain handicap is a numerical measure of an golfer’s ability to play golf over the course of 18 holes.
