Background and Company History of Nokia Corporation

Nokia Corporation is a multinational corporation involve in telecommunication, Internet and computer software. Its services include software and online services.

Founded by Fredrik Idestam and Leo Mechelin in Tampere, Finland in 1865. It was incorporated in Nokia in 1871.

Nokia the company started in 1865, from roots, rubber and cables. Just over hundred years, it has become a powerful telecommunication multinational company. Between 1968-1991, the newly formed Nokia Corporation positioned itself for a pioneering role in the early evolution of mobile communications.

From 1865 to 1967, as mobile phone use booms, Nokia makes the sector its core business with Nokia launching its 3G phone in 1999. By the turn of the millennium, the company becomes a world leader.

In 2007, Nokia and Siemens announced the merger of their networks and carrier operations. In recent times, Nokia sells its billionth mobile phone as the third generation of mobile technology emerges. China’s millions of mobile users alone is indebted to a product that began life in one of the world’s least populated countries obviously so unlike its overpopulated customer.

As of fiscal year 2009, Nokia Corporation had worldwide revenue sales of €40.99 billion.

Nokia Corporation has 129,746 employees (worldwide) as from June 30, 2010. Nokia Corporation espouses a “flat” corporate culture, although English is the company language.
