Lesson Plan: Day 4, Getting to Know Food Lesson

Day 4: Getting to Know Food Lesson
Timing: 50 min. class
Materials: Copies for whole class – Speaking activity 6: Food and Drink, Food pyramid sheet, “To be” grammar exercise, Subject/Verb agreement grammar exercise, “Do/Does” grammar exercise, Information question grammar exercise, Fun with fruits and veggies worksheet, extra paper, pencils, chalk and chalkboard.

Presentation: To start the class off I will pass out the following handout PDF Handout. I will read over the captions for the pictures while the students follow along and I will also go over the vocabulary and pronunciation under the useful language category. Then I will pass out this handout to illustrate the food pyramid. I will draw the empty pyramid on the board and have each student name a food item that goes in a category and write it in as the students name it. (15 min. S>T interaction)

Practice: Students will get into pairs and will be given the following fill-in-the-blank grammar exercises to complete PDF Handout 1, PDF Handout 2, PDF Handout 3. I will do the first one of each with the whole class. (15 mins S>S interaction)

Production: Going back to the original handout the students will pair up and ask and answer the questions listed. Students will get into different pairs for the next activity. It is a contest and each partner must list as many items as possible for each category of food that I write on the board (further instructions at website). (20 min. S>S interaction)

Extra time activity: PDF Grammar exercise for students to complete in pairs. (7 min. S>S interaction)
