The Colts were originally named when the team was located in Baltimore. The name honored the history of horse breeding and racing in Maryland. When the team moved to Indianapolis in 1984, they retained the name.

1. Peyton Manning – Quarterback
Peyton Manning has been an Indianapolis Colt since he was drafted as the first pick in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft. A highly sought-after quarterback, Manning had already secured almost two-dozen awards since he began his college football career. Peyton was the starting quarterback for the Colts during his rookie season. His performance that year rivals his performance thus far through the 2010 season. He threw a personal record of 575 attempted passes, with 326 completions. He has played in every game since he began with the team, and he continues to post record-setting numbers this season. Manning will undoubtedly be elected into the Professional Football Hall of Fame upon his retirement from the sport.

2. Marvin Harrison – Wide Receiver
Marvin Harrison was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 1996, during the first round of the NFL Draft. He played with the team until 2008, when he became a free agent. During his time with Indianapolis, Harrison was an eight-time Pro Bowler, a six-time First-Team All-Pro selection, a two-time Second-Team All-Pro selection and a Super Bowl Champion. He was named to the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team as well.

3. Eric Dickerson – Running Back
Eric Dickerson was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft. After a number of contract disputes, Dickerson was traded by Los Angeles to the Indianapolis Colts in 1987. He began playing well immediately. Eventually, Eric Dickerson moved on to play for the Los Angeles Raiders and the Atlanta Falcons. During his entire career, which spanned a decade from 1983 until 1993, he was a six-time Pro Bowler, a five-time First-Team All-Pro selection and part of the 1980s All-Decade Team.

4. John Mackey – Tight End
John Mackey was drafted in the second round of the 1963 NFL Draft by the [then] Baltimore Colts. He played with the team from 1963 until 1971 as the No. 88 Tight End. He was the team’s strongest Tight End ever, adding duties and responsibilities to the position that were previously left to other players. Mackey was a five-time Pro Bowler, a three-time All-Pro selection and part of the NFL 1960s All Decade Team. In 1992, Mackey was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the second Tight End in history to achieve the honor.

5. Ted Hendricks – Linebacker
Ted Hendricks was drafted by the [then] Baltimore Colts during the second round of the 1969 NFL Draft. He was a defensive lineman in college, but began the first half of his rookie season as a defensive lineman. Halfway through the season, the coach switch Hendricks back to his position as linebacker. He played with the Colts for five seasons, eventually leaving to play with the Green Bay Packers, and later the Oakland Raiders. During his entire professional career, Hendricks was an eight-time Pro Bowler, a four-time First-Team All-Pro selection, a five-time Second-Team All-Pro selection, a seven-time First-Team All-Conference selection and a three-time Second-Team All-Conference selection. He was a four-time NFL Champion, once with the Colts, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990.
