Cognitive science is the study of the brain and how it processes work. It also looks at intelligence and the ways in which a person learns different ideas and concepts. In the early days of experimental psychology, psychologists often focused on the thought processes because they believed it would give them a better understanding of the individual and why they acted a certain way. The same idea still holds true today as psychologists study abnormal brain waves and functions in the hopes of determining why some people have mental diseases and disorders. Cognitive science also encompasses areas of archaeology, linguistics or language, sociology and biology.

Cognitive science is an important topic because no one knows quite what the future holds. Work in this field have helped scientists and researchers work on other ideas. Some even credit early experiments with the invention of artificial intelligence as the first computers of this kind functioned in the same way as the human brain. Researchers in the field have also discovered patterns and things in the brain that led to problems such as dyslexia. It also helps the scientists discover why people think and act the way they do. As long as the field continues to exist, humans will learn more about their thought patterns.
