Wedding Guide: Best Ways to Propose to Your Girlfriend
Make a Memorable Proposal
So, you’re ready to take the plunge. The traditional quiet dinner, popping the question and pulling out the ring is not what you had in mind. You’re looking for something different, out of the ordinary and something she will tell your children and grandchildren about. Whether you are looking for romantic, unusual or something just plain fun let’s see if we can help spark your imagination with the following suggestions.
Romantic doesn’t always mean roses, but if you are in the Portland, Oregon area a trip to the Portland Rose Gardens will certainly fit the bill and she’ll feel as if you purchased all the roses just for her. With Mount Hood, standing in as witness in the background, the Portland Rose Gardens offer more than one spot on the grounds to pop the question. The gardens contain over 10,000 different rose bushes out of 550 different varieties. Surrounded by such beautiful landscaping and the smell of fresh roses she would be hard pressed to say no.
If Miami is on your itinerary a stop at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a “must.” Originally built in 1914 at a cost of $20 million, she will not only be awestruck by the beautiful interior and exterior of this location, but by the ring presented as well. In an attempt to duplicate European mansions, the home and grounds were built by a wealthy American industrialist, including the handcrafted interior design. The craftsmanship and quality of the home are unparalleled today. Guided tours are available or you may simply wander the grounds on your own. Across from Key Biscayne is the perfect spot to make your request.
If you’re looking for something with a little more zip, the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego, California is the place to look into. A great start to the day would be exploring the buildings, dating to the early 20th century, still standing today and sporting early Victorian architecture. The Quarter is both romantic and exciting at the same time. Horse Drawn Carriage Rides are available to add a little romance making it the perfect venue for asking that all important question. After she says “yes” check out any number of fantastic restaurants nearby and the vibrant nightlife. Spend an evening in the House of Blues listening to great jazz acts from across the country. Or, get a taste of Ireland, while keeping your feet on the ground, with a stop at the Dublin Square Pub.
If you’re looking for a more unique venue to ask your bride for her hand, a billboard might be just what you’re looking for. They are located in every city and town and imagine the look on her face when you drive by only to see her picture and your question. For an added bonus all her friends and family will, no doubt, see the same message. Take an afternoon drive and watch her reaction when she realizes it’s her up on the board or place it on a board on her morning route to work.
This might take a little doing but would, no doubt, be well worth it. Take in a dinner and a movie. During the middle of the movie arrange to have the film stopped. The staff might make an announcement regarding technical difficulties and to please stay seated. At this point have a short photo slide show of the two of you, or a short video of you explaining what she means to your life. Then, pop the question.
If your girlfriend is a horse lover take her to a track, or similar location, make arrangements for four horses with “Will you marry me?” on their side to walk by. Add a fifth horse with either her name or picture on it. After which, of course, you will be ready with the ring.
If you’re honey is returning from a trip give her a special greeting at the airport. Have a large banner created asking “Will you marry me?” Solicit the help of family and friends to hold the banner with you standing at the “me” section.
If you are both sports fans, her suspicions’ will not be raised with a trip to the ballpark. The cost of renting the scoreboard is usually within reason and during the seventh-inning stretch watch her face light up. This is a moment that will be captured by each sports broadcaster. How can she say “no” with 30,000 to 40,000, or more, people watching?
This is certainly out of the ordinary, keeps you close to home and is low cost. Take a large sheet of paper and print backwards “Will you marry me?”. Tape it on the inside of the bathroom door. Next time she’s in the bathroom, closes the door and looks at the mirror she’ll see your proposal. You will be waiting outside on bended knee with ring in hand.
If heights are not an issue for either of you consider renting a hot air balloon. The majority of hot air balloon companies will schedule a trip for two complete with champagne. During your trip have a plane, pulling a banner; fly around the balloon several times with the words “Will you marry me?” behind it. Or, write the words out in candles. Be sure to ask someone to keep watch to be sure they stay lit. Take an evening flight and have the balloon drop down over the candles.
Asking for her hand in marriage can be nerve racking. But, taking the time to make the proposal in a fun and creative way will make memories that both of you will cherish for a lifetime.
