The Atlanta Falcons team was named by a fan contest. Many of the entries suggested Falcons, however, one person was selected as the winner because of her reason. She said, “the falcon is proud and dignified with great courage and fight.”

1. Deion Sanders – Cornerback
Deion Sanders was drafted out of college by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round of the 1989 NFL Draft. He had a great rookie year and continued as a starting player for the team until he signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 1994. He went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys, the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Ravens before retiring from professional football. During his career, Sanders was an eight-time Pro Bowler, a six-time First Team All-Pro selection and a two-time Second Team All-Pro selection. He was twice a Super Bowl champion and was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1994.

2. Steve Bartkowski – Quarterback
Steve Bartkowski was the first pick in the first round of the 1975 NFL Draft. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons, and played with the team from 1975 to 1985. He went on to become part of the Washington Redskins and then the Los Angeles Rams, staying with each team only briefly before retiring from professional football in 1986. In his debut year with the Atlanta Falcons, Bartkowski won the NFL Rookie of the Year Award. He was a two-time Pro Bowler and Second Team All-Pro selection. His number, 10, was retired by the Atlanta Falcons.
