History of the Atlanta Braves

The Braves were originally founded in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings. The team became the Red Caps, the Doves, Rustlers, Braves, Bees and then Braves once more before leaving Boston for good in 1952. They relocated to Milwaukee, playing from 1953 until 1965 as the Milwaukee Braves. The team moved to its current home, Atlanta, in 1966. They began playing at Atlanta Stadium, where they remained until the construction of Turner Field was completed in 1997.

The Atlanta Braves, in their entire history dating back to Boston, have won 17 National League Championship Series. They turned three of those championships into World Series titles.
