Aaron Rodgers’ Professional Career
His first year with the Green Bay Packers was met with disappointment, as he spent most of his time on the bench, playing backup to Brett Favre. The team finished with an unimpressive 4 – 12 record, with Rodgers seeing little playing time. In 2007, Rodgers’ bid as the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers was once again postponed when Brett Favre emotionally decided to stay on as the franchise quarterback for one more season. When Favre once again remained indecisive about his NFL career in 2008, the Packers opted to trade him to the New York Jets, giving Aaron Rodgers his first season as the starting quarterback in Green Bay.
When Rodgers debuted as quarterback for Green Bay against the Minnesota Vikings in 2008, it was the first time Lambeau Field had seen a starting quarterback other than Brett Favre since 1992. The Packers went on to win the game 24 – 19. In October of 2008, Rodgers signed a contract extension with Green Bay that guaranteed him $65 million through the 2014 football season.
