3 Effective Ways to Quit Smoking and Resources to Help

How many times have you a smoker say; “if only could quit”, or “I’ve tried and tried and I just can’t quit smoking, no matter what”. Well there are successful ways to quit smoking and if you are truly determined to meet your goal of ridding yourself of the poisons and toxins in cigarettes, you can. However, it is understandable that sometimes the pull of a habit that a person has had for years and years can be one that is hard to get rid of and put behind you. That is why having resources and support to back you in your struggle can be a huge benefit to meet your goal. The three major ways that most smokers use are: cold turkey, with the use of medications, either over the counter or prescription, and with the use of some type of hypnosis program.

The cold turkey method is simply not smoking at all. This method employs the use of sheer will power and determination. You rely on yourself and your desire to be free of smoking to stifle your urge to pick up a pack of smokes. This is, perhaps, the hardest method to use because you have nothing to help take any of the edge off of the urge and desire to smoke.

Engaging the use of medications, whether prescription or over the counter, is one of the easier methods to use in quitting smoking. Many of the medications available to assist you in quitting smoking contain Nicotine, the substance in cigarettes that causes the addiction. When you use some type of medication you are actually replacing your body’s need for the Nicotine, just in a smaller dosage. Generally, when you use medications it is in coordination with a step program, this means that your dosage is decreased over a period of time, allowing your body to slowly adjust itself to the lack of Nicotine so that when you have completed the regimen your body will not miss the nicotine because it has become accustomed to the gradually lowered amount of the substance in your body. Although this method is very effective it is also a timely one and requires a commitment to keeping your schedule of medication.

Another method used in quitting smoking is that of using a program that employs the use of hypnosis to remove your desire and cravings to smoke. This program is one of the more popular methods used because it tends to offer much quicker results then some of the their programs. The use of such a method can be a toss up in the area of successful results. The reason for this i because some people are excellent hypnotic subjects who are very suggestible, but there are some people who do not make good hypnotic subjects, therefore this method is not successful for everyone.

Another approach to use in quitting smoking are some of the various online resources available, here are 5 that may be of help to you.
